Tess Twiehaus is the founder and principal designer of Tess Interiors, a Los Angeles–based interior design studio specializing in thoughtfully layered, highly personal spaces. Her work blends timeless architecture with unexpected color, pattern, texture, and vintage elements to create interiors that feel collected rather than overly designed. With a background spanning residential, hospitality, retail, and workplace design, Tess brings a holistic perspective to every project, balancing beauty with the way people actually live. At the heart of her approach is a belief that the best interiors are a reflection of the people who inhabit them—intentional, expressive, and built to evolve over time.
Organic Elegance
Tess Interiors’ Patterned Paradise
For her My Rowe Design space, Tess Twiehaus of Tess Interiors set out to create a living room that felt richly layered without feeling overly formal, envisioning it for a family who “gathers for parties, game nights, the whole shebang.” Her most distinctive flourish is a pair of floor-to-ceiling fabric walls, dramatically draped in a Rowe indigo floral fabric to create an almost theatrical backdrop for the room. “My goal was to balance playfulness and elegance,” Tess explains, and that interplay of ideas carries throughout the space and all its furnishings.
My Rowe Design is…
Layered
Elevated
Welcoming
“I’m picturing a family who really uses their living room here. It’s beautiful, but not too precious.”
In front of one of the draped walls, a pale blue Heywood Chair and floral Brampton Chair create an eye-catching focal point as they flank an antique buffet. Across the room sits a 98” Moreau Sofa in warm brown, its generous contours and simple elegance providing a lovely counterpoint to the room’s abundance of pattern and texture. “I love the lines of this piece,” says Tess of Moreau, praising it as “classic and contemporary in all the right ways.” At the center of the space, built-in cabinetry upholstered in a repeating forest-inspired print surrounds a mirrored bar, complete with a striking natural stone counter. Together, the elements create a space that feels collected, unexpected, and ready for entertaining.
“My goal was to balance playfulness and elegance.”
