Salt Design Company’s Serene Sitting Room

Inspired by the charm and character of a classic New England sitting room, Sarah Brady of Salt Design Co. envisioned her My Rowe Design space as one that felt collected over time, balancing traditional forms with natural materials and subtle nods to historical architecture. More than just a setting for formal occasions, she created this space to become the heart of a home. “I imagine a family using this room as their everyday retreat,” Sarah explains, “where someone curls up with a book on a rainy afternoon, where kids gather after school, and where friends linger long after dinner.” The result is a gathering place that feels beautifully rooted in tradition, while remaining casual and relaxed enough for daily use.

My Rowe Design is…
Timeless
Layered
Inviting

“It’s the kind of room that feels equally suited for morning coffee, afternoon reading, or gathering with family and friends around the fire.”

Serving as the focal point of the space, our Moreau Sofa in a charming indigo floral print anchors a cozy seating area built for conversation and connection. Near the fireside, a Heywood Chair in rich brown velvet and a pair of Madeline Chairs in tan windowpane check add layers of timeless pattern and texture, while sleek accent tables introduce a note of contemporary simplicity. “Without question, the Moreau Sofa is my favorite piece,” says Sarah. “It’s the anchor of the room and perfectly captures what we love about Rowe—beautiful proportions, incredible comfort, and a classic silhouette that feels current without chasing trends.”

“The room is designed to be beautiful, but more importantly, to be lived in.”

Top Five Design Rules

1
Prioritize function before aesthetics.
2
Layer textures instead of relying on bold colors.
3
Invest in timeless pieces over trendy ones.
4
Every room needs a mix of old and new.
5
I love breaking the “everything must match” rule; some of the most interesting spaces come from thoughtful contrast.

Salt Design Company’s Favorites

Sources of Inspiration

Travel, history, and classic New England architecture. I am constantly inspired by old homes, historic estates, and places that have a strong sense of permanence and authenticity. The best spaces tell a story, and I often find those stories in architecture that have stood the test of time.

Room to Design

Kitchens. I love the challenge of balancing beauty and function. They are often the hardest-working rooms in a home and require thoughtful planning, but they also become the heart of family life. When a kitchen works well, everything else in the home feels easier.

Travel Destination

Italy. The architecture, craftsmanship, food, and effortless way that history and modern life coexist are endlessly inspiring. Nantucket would be a very close second.

Music to Fuel Creativity

In the Salt office we play a mix of many genres. You can typically hear 60s and 70s classic rock, oldies, surf rock and the occasional tropical house mix to brighten up the vibe and embrace the day’s hustle.

Bristol Slipcovered Sectional

“I keep coming back to the Bristol Slipcovered Sectional. It’s the perfect lounging sofa—comfortable enough for everyday life, yet refined enough for a beautifully designed space. Its relaxed silhouette and generous scale invite people to sink in, stay awhile, and truly use the room.”
